Throw away your poinsettia! Give it up and buy another one next Christmas!
Don’t let plants freeze dry! Make sure plant roots are wet during times of low temperatures
Spot treat winter weeds with appropriate herbicide.
Spray horticultural oil for insect control.
FEBRUARY

Apply pre-emergeant weed control every 60 days during the growing season for both landscape beds and lawns. Ex. Ferti-Lome Lawn Food Plus Crabgrss and Weed Preventer
Prune roses, ornamental grasses, crape myrtles, and evergreen materials now! Don’t prune Spring flowering plants like azaleas and forsythia until after blooming.
MARCH
Visit the garden center! Now is a great time to shop for new and exciting plants.
Prepare the soil in your landscape beds with soil amendments such as lime and organic material.
Water in Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub, a 12 month insect preventer on plant materials with pest problems such as azaleas.
APRIL
It’s time for the seasonal color change-out! Don’t forget to fertilize with blooming plant food when you plant the petunias.
Go through your sprinkler system and make necessary adjustments.
Fertilize lawns and landscape areas with slow-release Nitrogen fertilizer. Ex. Ferti-Lome Weed-Out Plus Lawn Fertilizer
MAY
Prune forsythia, azaleas and other spring blooming plants when they finish blooming.
The soil temperature is warm enough now; plant those summer bulbs!
Fertilize azaleas monthly until the end of August.
Check your landscape for fire-ants and treat if necessary.
JUNE
Spray weeds in landscape beds and lawns to keep them under control.
Fertilize lawns with slow-release high Nitrogen fertilizer. Ex. Lawn Food Plus Iron
Re-apply bloom inducing fertilizer on annual color.
Treat lawn for grubs.
JULY
Prune hydrangeas now, before they start setting next years’ blooms!
Give annuals and perennials a haircut if needed.
Water lawns early in the day before plants get stressed.
AUGUST
Water, water, water! And then water some more!
After this month, stop applying Nitrogen fertilizer to azaleas and other shrubs.
Spot treat weeds in lawns.
SEPTEMBER
Time for pansies! Remove summer color and work the soil, amending as needed, and plant your fall color.
Fertilize your lawn areas.
Treat for grubs again.
OCTOBER
Apply winterizer on lawn areas, and pre-emergeant for winter weeds.
Spray hard to kill weeds like nutgrass and onions.
Fall is a great time for planting trees and shrubs!
NOVEMBER
Re-arrange your garden as needed; now is the time for transplanting!
Plant your Spring bulbs!
Winterize your sprinkler system.
DECEMBER
Remove those leaves! Leaving them on the lawn is unsightly and can cause the lawn to thin out.
Now is a great time to lime! Check the pH of your soil and amend as needed.
Feed your feathered friends! Birds could use a little extra food this time of year
