How to Create a Living Topiary

Step 1

Gather your succulent cuttings.

Step 2

Soak the topiary form for at least 2-3 hours or as long as over night.

Step 3

Pick a starting point depending on which form you are using. Use a pen or pencil to make a hole for the cutting.

Step 4

Secure the cutting by inserting a pin into the form snug against the cutting. Continue this process until the form is complete.

Tips

Topiary cuttings can be found in all kinds of shapes – wreaths, spears, animal shapes, hearts, letters and more.
If you use your own succulent cuttings, allow at least two weeks to let your succulents form a callus at the location of the cut which will prevent the cuttings from rotting in the damp moss.
Remove the topiary form from water several hours before using it to allow excess moisture to escape.
If you are using a sphere topiary form, it is best to start at the bottom.
Remember this is a creative process, and your original plan may change along the way.
