Caryopteris, also known as Blue Beard or Blue Spirea (even though it is not a spirea), is a woody perennial that is known for its attractive, aromatic foliage and commonly true blue flowers. Blooms form in clusters along the plant stems from late summer to fall. Buds form on current years’ growth; cut back to wood with active sprouts. There are several yellow leaved varieties although most are grayish green. Yellow-leaved varieties have much better color in full sun. There are also varieties with white or yellow variegation.
