Akebia is also known as chocolate vine because of the chocolate fragrance given off by the purple or white blooms. Akebia also features beautiful blue-green leaves which are divided into leaflets, giving this vine a soft texture as it winds its way around pergolas, trellis structures and other sturdy supports. Akebia can get quite large and may damage small structures so sturdy support is key. The stems of the vine are an attractive gray color, which provides nice winter interest.
